Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity raises around £1,000,000 each year to fund Florence Nightingale Hospice services, including the Hospice itself which is based on the campus of Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Aylesbury. A team of over 400 volunteers support both the Hospice and the Charity.

Haddenham Open Gardens

Sunday 21st June 2pm - 6pm

The Haddenham Community Support Group for the Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity is hosting an Open Gardens event. A total of sixteen gardens, including four new ones for 2026, will be open to view.

Tickets and maps are available on the day at The Scout & Guide Centre in Banks Park HP17 8EE and on Church End Green HP17 8AE.

Adult Tickets cost £7.50 for entry to all the gardens. Both cash and cards will be accepted. Accompanied children under 12 years go free.

Refreshments will be available at The Scout & Guide Centre and St. Mary’s Church.

Haddenham Shop in the Running for a National Award

The Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity’s shop at Bradmoor Farm in Haddenham has been shortlisted for the Charity Retail Association’s UK’s Favourite Charity Shop Award 2024. This follows the first stage of the competition where an online vote placed the Haddenham shop in the top six charity shops in the South East of England. This shop is the only Buckinghamshire charity shop that passed through the first voting stage.

The Charity hopes to earn its shop a top spot in the next round of voting, and is encouraging shoppers and supporters to vote for the Haddenham site before the deadline on Monday 23rd September. To vote, go to: www.charityretail.org.uk/the-uks-favourite-charity-shop-south-east

Temporary Volunteers Needed This Summer

Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity needs some temporary volunteers to help in its shops over the busy summer holiday period.

“With summer fast approaching, we are looking for short-term ‘Summer Temp’ volunteers to help us run our shops during the busy summer period. Volunteering is a fantastic way to get out and meet new people as well as learn new skills. By giving your time in a Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity shop, you are doing something very special for someone else,” says Lily Caswell, Head of Retail at the Charity.

“Our Shop Managers provide all volunteers with full support and training and it’s a great opportunity for those who might be back from university, in-between jobs, retired or just want to help support your local community. So, if you can spare a few hours a week between June and September, please sign up as a Summer Temp volunteer – we’d love to meet you.”

The Charity has three shops based in Aylesbury, as well as in Chinnor, Haddenham, Thame, Wendover, Buckingham and Winslow.

Haddenham Virtual Gardens Tours

Enjoy a unique opportunity to visit six of Haddenham’s hidden gardens from the comfort of your own home. The tours, organised by the Haddenham Community Support Group, are to raise money for the Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity.

Hospice Appeal

Sadly, all the Florence Nightingale shops including our local one at Bradmoor Farm had to close again for Lockdown 2 causing another loss of income for the Florence Nightingale Hospice at Stoke Mandeville.

We can all help please by giving £5 to the Hospice and picking up a Bear and Vic booklet as a Christmas gift to show there is some joy in the year 2020! Available at Cuddington Stores or the Florence Nightingale shop Bradmoor when it re-opens and while stocks last.

It has given joy to us, a 96-year-old mother, grown-up daughters, children, and friends - especially those facing difficult times.

So please give a donation and joy this Christmas! Thank you very much.

Thank you Bear and Vic – Au Revoir!

It was time……
Tris would be going back to work soon – this would be the only window in which they would be able to launch.

It was going to be a journey to the stars ...... a journey to divine the true wisdom and to find the deeper meaning behind their existence.
They were going to the Great Bear Constellation, many light years away, hoping to meet the Great Bear herself, learn from their forebears and ask her the questions they had wanted the answers to all their lives......

As they waited for the launch procedure, in N.A.S.A’s new rocket, the first of its kind with wind down windows, Bear and Vic wiped away their tears – they knew they would not be back for a long time.

They waved to all the beautiful friends they had made over the last few weeks...... never before had they enjoyed so many laughs and so many smiles, so many kind words and gestures...... and had so much fun!

They had been truly touched by people’s warmth, kindness, appreciation and encouragement...... and it would be something they would always carry on their journey ahead.

As the engines rumbled and shook, Bear and Vic waved their little bears arms, holding each other, with tears in their eyes, with hope in their hearts and with such love in their beings......

Bears, Boys and Bridleway Blooms!
